Two more silvers for Iowa Central

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Iowa Central swim team claimed two more relay runner-ups here Thursday on the second day of the NJCAA Championships.

The men's 200 freestyle relay of Nikola Trajanovski, Quintin Tayali, Luke Johnson and Sam Brennan finished second in 1:22.35, while the women's 400 medley relay of Maria Goncalves, Lily Wright, Nancy Olson and Leticia Dias were runners-up in 3:56.29.

Goncalves, Emily Small, Wright and Dias also added a third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.53), while Tayali, Kyle McKenzie, Pedro Aragon and Brennan were fourth in the 400 medley (3:27.18).

Both teams are currently third in the standings behind Indian River State and Southwestern Oregon. The women trail Southwestern Oregon by just nine points and the men are 70 back of second.

On the women's side, Iowa Central scored eight more Top-10 finishes. Goncalves was third in the 50 back (27.61), Dias fifth in the 200 free (1:56.90), Wright sixth in the 100 butterfly (59.46), Olson seventh in the 100 butterfly (59.79), Small eighth in the 50 back (29.83) and Andrea Gallardo Perez eighth in the 400 individual medley (4:57.33).

Saige Knight added a ninth in the 200 free and Penny Lawrence 10th in the 400 individual medley.

The Tritons also had eight individual Top-10 placings on the men's side led by a fifth from Trajanovski in the 200 free (1:41.71). Tayali was sixth in the 50 back (24.40), Aragon seventh in the 200 free (1:43.26), McKenzie seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:07.19), Brennan eighth in the 100 butterfly (50.37), Gavin Hall ninth in the 50 back and Brendon Chadd 10th in the 200 free. 

In the women's 400 medley relay, the quartet set a new school record, while Goncalves broke the school record in the 50 back during the prelims. Both 200 free relays are now ranked second in school history.
