Coach Wyllie just completed his third season as Head Coach of Iowa Central’s Men’s Swim Team. During his time at the helm, his men have captured 3 consecutive third place finishes at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Swimming & Diving Championships; won four individual national titles; set 11 varsity team records; and achieved 14 College Swimming & Diving Association of America (CSCAA) relay All America swims and 59 CSCAA individual All America swims.

Prior to coming to Iowa Central, Coach Wyllie served as Head Coach of Velocity Swimming, a USA Swimming club team located in Wenatchee, Washington. During his 14-month tenure, he produced several USA Swimming Sectional and Futures finalists.

The bulk of his coaching career occurred in Michigan, where he served as Head Coach of the Birmingham Seaholm High School Boys Swimming & Diving team for 25 years, from the fall of 1997 to the spring of 2021. During his time leading the Maples, his teams captured nine league championships; set 27 league records; won four state titles (2011, 2014, 2015, 2021); set 12 state records; produced 25 individual state champions and 18 relay state champions; achieved 67 National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) All America performances; and finished in the top 10 four times in NISCA’s Mythical High School National Championships.

Additionally, while at Seaholm Coach Wyllie was named Oakland Activities Association (OAA)Division1/Red Division Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2020 and 2021; Oakland Press Coach of the Year in 1998, 2005, and 2008; Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (MISCA) Zone 2 Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2014; MISCA Division 2 Coach of the Year in 2015; and the Michigan High School Coaches Association Boys Swim Coach of the Year in 2015.

When Coach Wyllie isn’t on the pool deck, you’ll most likely find him in the woods jogging on the trails in one of the nearby community or state parks or visiting one of his three kids who, from oldest to youngest respectively, live in Arizona, Iowa, and Idaho.
