Nationals moved indoors for Tritons

PLANO, Tex. - Inclement weather forced the NJCAA Tennis Championships indoors here Tuesday as Iowa Central battled against some of the top players in the country.

The Tritons had five players in singles action during the day, with Nicholas Espinoza scoring a victory to move into the quarterfinals. 

Espinoza, competing in the No. 3 bracket, topped Colin Hartman of Merdian, 6-1, 6-1. He will now meet top-seed Ryo Minakata of Tyler for a spot in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Merlin Bolema, Juan Gomez, Theo Devals and Juan Navarrete each suffered setbacks in the second round. 

Bolema fell to fifth-seed Rafal Bednarczuk of Colin, 6-1, 6-0; Gomez dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to No. 3 seed Cash Hanzlik of Tyler; Devals was topped by sixth-seed Tiago Marques of ABAC, 6-1, 6-1; and Navarrete fell to Juan Agudelo of Jacksonville, 6-3, 6-3.

Espinoza and two doubles teams will be in action on Wednesday.
