Tritons still shooting for Top-10 finish

PLANO, Tex. - The Iowa Central men's tennis team continues to push towards a Top-10 finish as the NJCAA Championship wind down here. 

On Wednesday, Nico Zumba and the doubles team of Juan Gomez and Zumba kept their hopes of a medal alive with wins on the consolation side. Nicholas Espinoza in singles, Espinoza and Juan Navarrete and Merlin Bolema and Theo Devals in doubles all came up short on the championship side.

Zumba, playing the No. 4 bracket, posted an 8-5 victory over Greyson Parman of Jones County to advance. He can still finish as high as third for the Tritons. 

In the No. 1 doubles flight, Gomez and Zumba claimed a 9-8 win in a tiebreaker over Gaspar Meda and Daniel Panzica, also of Jones County, to keep their hopes of claiming the consolation bracket going. 

Through Wednesday, Iowa Central is tied for 10th with 17 points with Harford. Tyler leads the overall standings with 36 followed by Seward and ABAC.
