Iowa Central aces Grand View

DES MOINES - The Iowa Central men's tennis team opened their fall dual season with an 8-1 victory over Grand View here Tuesday afternoon.

The Tritons swept all three doubles matches and went 4-1 in singles, including straight set victories by Eduardo Valenca, Nolan Laduree, Nicholas Espinoza and Theo Devals. Both Laduree at No. 3 singles and Espinoza at No. 4 singles won without dropping a game. 

Nick Mathis finished the match off with a win in the third set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, fighting back after losing the first set.

Valenca picked up a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles over Dylan Ramsey. 

At the No. 1 doubles spot, Espinoza and Valenca won, 6-4. Zamani Moyo and Riku Sugiyama scored a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles and Devals and Laduree won 6-1 at the No. 3 spot.

"Eduardo and Nicholas had a great win at No. 1 doubles over a very experienced team from Grand View," Iowa Central head coach Eric Sturgis said. "The momentum from doubles carried over into singles with Nicholas clinching the match."

Arthur Praud dropped a tough 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 decision at No. 2 singles to Grand View's Igor Theodorakopoulus. 

Next action for the Tritons will be September 24-26 in Arkansas City, Kansas for the ITA Regional Championships.
