Men's Tennis Defeats Northwestern 9-0

Mens tennis won at Northwestern, taking a perfect 9-0 match

The seventh-ranked Iowa Central Men's Tennis Team swept Northwestern at Orange City 9-0 Monday evening.

The Tritons started the match by winning all three doubles. Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Amen Prince Gandonou defeated Northwestern's David Bomgaars and Jorge Mendez 6-4. Caleb Peterson and Derrick Namanya won 6-1 over Leandro Costa and Mateo Flores. Mariano Orsini Rodriguez and Tadeo Missan defeated Arthur Vincente and Collin Harmelink 6-1.

In singles, the Tritons continued the momentum by winning all six singles matches.

Hod'Abalo Isak Padio won sets with Northwestern's Jorge Mendez 6-3 and 6-4. Amen Prince Gandonou defeated Bomgaars 6-1 and 6-0. Caleb Peterson took the match from Mateo Flores 6-3 and 6-1. Derrick Namanya won his first set 6-3 over Northwestern's Costa, who took the second set 6-2. Namanya won the tie breaker, 10-8. Tadeo Missan won over Arthur Vincente 6-1 and 6-2, and Mariano Orsini Rodriguez defeated Collin Harmelink, 6-2.

"I am pleased by the effort from the guys today," said Interim Head Coach Kenneth Michaud. "It was tough, windy conditions and our team handled it well against a good Northwestern team."

The Triton men now shift their focus to preparing for the NJCAA National Tournament in Plano, TX May 13-17.
