IOWA CITY - The Iowa Central track and field team opened their 2020 indoor season here Saturday at the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa. 

A total of 10 men and five women posted national qualifying marks for the Tritons right out of the gates. 

Courtney Lindsey set a new meet-record in the 60-meter dash here last year, finishing in 6.67. In the finals this season, Lindsey broke that record, going 6.66 to win the race.

David Dunlap was the 200-meter dash winner and Eleonora Curtabbi claimed the 3000-meter title. 

"This was a great start to our indoor season," said Dee Brown, Director of Track and Field at Iowa Central. "We didn't have our full squad with us just yet. Most of these kids have been working really hard all fall, so it was exciting to see them finally get a chance to compete. We had lots of personal records and quite a few national qualifying marks.

"We are excited about the group of individuals we have this year. They did a pretty good job supporting each other out there today, that was one of our primary goals for this meet"

Along with Lindsey and Dunlap earning national qualifying marks, Kris Brown (60), Milos Pendic (3000), Noah Bundrock (3000), Jaheem Hayles (60 hurdles), Zavantae Chichester (60 hurdles), Elijah Barnes (shot put), Malachi Price (weight throw) and Nick Hudson (weight throw) also did for the Triton men.

Barnes posted the fourth-best throw in the shot put for the school and Hayles clocked the sixth-best time in the 60 hurdles.

On the women's side, joining Curtabbi as national qualifiers were Tatyana McKenzie (60), Florance Uwajeneza (3000), Rosalie Fish (3000) and Tricee Beelen (weight throw). 

Curtabbi ran the seventh-fastest 3000 time in school history.
