Bungei, Hayles lead charge for Tritons

LEVELLAND, Tex. - Kelvin Bungei and Jaheem Hayles scored national titles as the Iowa Central men's track and field team finished fourth here Thursday at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Bungei, who captured the Steeplechase earlier in the week, added the 1,500 title to his collection with a time of 3:57.20. He was also fourth in the 5,000 in 15:06.34.

Hayles clocked a time of 13.62 to clear the field in the 110-meter hurdles for his crown. He is headed to Syracuse University in the fall to continue his career.

The Tritons finished with 78 points as South Plains and Barton tied for the team title with 101 points. Iowa Central was the highest ICCAC school.

James MacKey Jr. picked up a bronze in the discus with a throw of 51.85m while Jerome Jessup and Eliot Cummings were in the Top-6 of their events.

Jessup went 20.76 in the 200-meter dash and Cummings jumped 14.67m in the triple jump.

Enoch Antwi was 11th in the triple jump.
