Tritons' Kuleshov Takes Gold at Drake Relays

DES MOINES — Roman Kuleshov added his name to an elite list of athletes from Iowa Central to score gold at the Drake Relays here Friday.

Kuleshov used a leap of 50-1.25 in the triple jump to place first inside Drake Stadium. His jump came on the first attempt and held up throughout the rest of the flight.

Purdue's Praise Aniamaka gave him a bit of a scare with a leap of 49-11.75 in the fifth round, while Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Jonathan Wilburn was third.

Tafari Bishop of Iowa Central was ninth in the 400 hurdles in 52.31, while Adeyah Brewster placed 12th in the 100 prelims in 13.85.

In recent years, Lee Eppie, Awet Yohannes, Courtney Lindsey and Adva Cohen all claimed titles for the Tritons at the Drake Relays.

Former Algona standout Dominick Etherington placed second in the men's shot put. Etherington, a senior at South Dakota State, had a throw of 58-7.25 for his best of the event.

Katara Jondle, a Southeast Valley grad, ran the anchor leg for Buena Vista in the 4×200, as they placed 15th in 1:43.83. Jondle had a split of 24.39.

Kelvin Bungei, who was a national champion for Iowa Central, helped the Iowa State men's 4×1,600 relay place second in 16:23.69. Bungei ran the opening leg in 4:08.32.

Another former Triton, Pur Biel, helped Drake place fifth in the 4×800. Biel, running the third leg, recorded a split of 1:56.61 as the Bulldogs went 7:41.52.

Cohen was back in action on the blue oval, as she placed seventh in the Steeplechase. The former Olympian clocked a time of 9:49.50 while competing for UA Dark Sky Distance.
