The Iowa Central Men's Track and Field Team competed in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College and the Drake Relays in Des Moines April 27-29.
Recording Top-10 finishes for the Tritons at the Janvrin Open were Willy Mabena, first place, 100-Meter Dash; Waukeem Walters, 10th place, 100-Meter Dash, first place, 200-Meter Dash; Kumunule Gbaley, eighth place, 200-Meter Dash; Marreion Marks, 10th place, 200-Meter Dash; Myki Kennedy, fourth place, 400-Meter Dash; Samson Shukuru, 10th place, 400-Meter Dash; Garrison Murray and Rayvon Wright, sixth place (6-way tie), High Jump; Samson Shukuru, third place, Long Jump; Tymar McKever, 10th place, Long Jump; Donald Lamp, seventh place, Shot Put; Joel Nyatusah, second place, 110-Meter Hurdles; Kamijah Carter, seventh place, 110-Meter Hurdles and fourth place, 400-Meter Hurdles.
Placing in the Top-10 at the Drake Relays were Roman Kuleshov, a champion in the Men's Triple Jump; Aries Scott, fourth in the Men's Decathlon; and the Mens 4x100-Meter Relay team of Ayomide Oyetunji, Kumunule Gbaley, Willy Mabena and Waukeem Walters finished second.
National Qualifiers were Waukeem Walters in the 200-Meter Dash, Marco Lopez and Brady Hogan in the 5km, Joel Nyatusah, 110 Hurdles; Kamijah Carter 400 Meter Hurdles; Zander Cobb, 5km; and the Men's 4x400 Relay Team of Kennedy, Bishop, Carter and Prince.
All-time Triton bests were recorded by Joel Nyatusah, 110 Hurdles; Zander Cobb, 5km; Tafari Bishop, 400 Hurdles; Waukeem Walters, Long Jump; and Aries Scott, Pole Vault.
"We had a great four days of track and field action between two different meets in Iowa this week," said Head Coach Dee Brown. "The highlight was definitely seeing Roman Kuleshov win the Drake Relays Special Invite Men's Triple Jump competition on Friday."
Next up for the Tritons is the Region 11 Championships in Council Bluffs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
