Campbell is USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

Zion Campbell was the 60 meter regional champion and is this weeks USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.

The 60-meter final was a must-see event at the NJCAA Region 11 Championships, which doubles as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Championships.

Zion Campbell was the reigning champ but he was behind rival Traunard Folson of Indian Hills on the seasonal list, 6.63 to 6.64. Folson was also the faster heat winner, 6.70 to 6.73.

The final lived up to expectations as Campbell won in a PR 6.60 over Folson's 6.64. Campbell's time also tied him for the fastest of the year among NJCAA athletes. He came back to finish second in the 200 in a time of 21.80 on the flat track at Buena Vista. Conversions for NJCAA qualifying purposes equate that performance to 21.42, faster than his seasonal best of 21.49 earlier in the season.

This is the fifth time that a male athlete from Iowa Central CC has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. Campbell joins Martin Lamou (2022), Courtney Lindsey (2020), Malik Beverly (2018) and Sterling Mungro (2017) in that regard.
