Track & Field Competes at Drake Relays, Janvrin Invitational

The Iowa Central Track and Field Team traveled to Indianola April 26-27 to compete at the Kip Janvrin Invitational at Simpson College.

Abigail Frey set a school record in the women's pole vault, at 2.60 meters, finishing eighth overall in the event.

Rowland Kirton-Browne finished second in the women's javelin with a 38.33-meter throw, and 10th in the shotput at 11.04 meters.

Landry McCoid finished 10th in the women's high jump with 1.40 meters.

For the Triton men, Sione Loutu Fifita's 1.95-meter high jump finished in third place. Also finishing third for the Tritons was Adreian Roper in the long jump at 6.92 meters. Roper also took second in the men's triple jump with 14.17 meters.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Donovon Cephus, Cashton Frank, Jeancarlo Barquinero and Alec Wyman finished in sixth place with a time of 44.60 seconds.

Hamza Mohamed finished ninth in the men's 800 with a time of 1:55.66

"This team just keeps showing up every week no matter what," said Track and Field Head Coach Anne Cleary. "The weather was all over the place this week/weekend, at times sunny and beautiful, at times we competed in rain or sat in weather delays. We're looking very good going into the Regional Meet next weekend." 

 

Several Tritons also qualified for the Drake Relays April 24-27 in Des Moines.

Tina Samson, ranked #1 in the nation (NJCAA) in the women's heptathlon, finished fifth in the event at Drake. Samson's performance qualified her for the national meet and was the #4 all-time best performance in the Triton record books.

Second-ranked (NJCAA) Jed Elmbarki finished ninth overall in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:00.73

The men's distance medley relay team of Jadon Boots, Musa Nkosi, Trevon Prince and Jed Elmbarki finished fourth in the event with a school record setting time of 9:55.44.

Stephen Sydnor finished in seventh place in the men's long jump at 7.11 meters.

Also competing for the Tritons were the men's 4x800 relay team of Antoine Tshimanga, Trevon Prince, Seon Booker and Jadon Boots, taking 15th with a time of 8:07.81 and Dayvione Briggs, finishing 17th in the women;s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.54.

The men's 4x400 team of Musa Nkosi, Seon Booker, Trevon Prince, Antoine Tshimanga qualified for nationals, but was not able to compete in the finals due to weather delays.

"The Drake Relays are an awesome experience for our student-athletes. They get to compete against the best collegiate athletes regardless of division and get to watch some of the best in the world," said Iowa Central Director of Track and Field Dee Brown. "Our meet this year was highlighted by Tina qualifying for the national meet in the heptathlon, she currently leads the nation by almost 100 points, a school record in the DMR (Boots, Prince, Tshimanga, Elmbarki), National Qualifying in the 4x400 (Nkosi, Booker, Prince, Tshimanga) and heat winners in the 4x100m (Hamed, Walters, Nkosi, Sydnor). Unfortunately, due to weather delays our 4x100m and 4x400m relays were not able to run in the finals."
