Bungei taking his talents to Iowa State

Kelvin Bungei will take his talents to Ames after cementing his place in the Iowa Central history books.

Bungei, a three-time NJCAA national champion, committed to Iowa State University.

"I am excited to compete at the NCAA level," Bungei said. "I will be running both cross country and track."

During his career with the Tritons, Bungei won the 2020 cross country, 2021 1,500-meter and 2021 Steeplechase national titles. He also helped Iowa Central capture five team national titles and is the school record holder in the mile at 4:04.19.

With Bungei present, the Tritons won both the 2020 and 2021 cross country crowns, the 2020 and 2021 half marathon championships and the 2020 indoor track and field title.

Bungei was also considering Arkansas and Oklahoma State. He will be joining the Cyclones at the end of this semester.

"I am familiar with the state of Iowa, so staying here was a big reason why I selected Iowa State," Bungei said. "Moving to another state was kind of a difficult thing and Iowa State also has my major, which is very important to me."
