Tritons compete at Luther All-American Invitational

DECORAH, IA - The Tritons competed in the Luther College All-American Invitational on Saturday.  It was a balmy 55 degrees with lots of rain and even more mud. The weather conditions didn't stop the Tritons from performing at their best.  With nearly a full squad, the women were led by sophomore Taylor McCreedy with her 3rd place finish. Her time of 19:57 was over a minute faster than last year at this same time, on a course which was more conducive to quicker times.  Iowa Central was without two of their top three this weekend but the rest of the women fought hard in their place. Sophomores Kate Miron and Britney Brown came in at 42nd and 45th places.  Kenzie Kaperka (62nd), Brook Haley (66th) and Raylene Williams (69th) rounded the Triton performers.  The women placed 7th of seven teams in the field.

The men's team placed third among eight teams. Luther was first at 30 points followed by the Luther Alumni with 56 points and then the Tritons at 62. Iowa Central was led by Aspel Kiprob and Aye Devany who ran 1-2 most of the way.  Due to a mudslide in the last half mile, Devany slipped to fourth overall. Freshman Ander Julian finished in tenth followed by Andrew Boyum at 25th and Trae Corby in 32nd.

"With the course and weather conditions as they were, it allowed our team to go out and run without any preconceived notions of time or place.  It removed any stress and allowed the majority of them to just have fun and compete.  I was impressed with quite a few of our athletes who didn't allow the elements to hold them back. This was a great opportunity for our staff and the athletes to really see what drives them," stated Coach Brown.

The Tritons travel to Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend to participate in the Woody Greeno Invitational co-hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska. The meet will feature approximately 35 teams with some of the top junior colleges in the Midwest as well as NCAA Division I Universities from the Air Force, Creighton, Drake, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Northern Colorado and Wichita State.
