2020-21 Recap: High marks for Tritons on the range

What would become a memorable season for the Iowa Central sport shooting team started all the way back in the fall.

The Tritons finished off that portion of their schedule as ICCAC West Division champions, going a perfect 7-0 in competition. They scored the most points of any team in the league with 3,434, besting Iowa Western, Iowa Lakes, Southwestern, Northwest Iowa and Ellsworth.

At nationals in the spring, Iowa Central brought home more hardware. Competing in San Antonio against the best of the best, Carson Feeney was the Class B men's skeet champion with Sarah England earning both the Class C women's sporting and super sporting titles.

Sally Jo Geckler earned runner-up honors in Class A for women's trap as Iowa Central was third in American trap and fourth in skeet.

"It really was a great year for our program," Iowa Central head coach Terry Coleman said. "Like so many others, we had our obstacles to overcome, but we saw a lot of improvement from a number of our shooters and they all just continued to work hard and get better each day."

Back on home soil, the Tritons were crowned skeet champions at the Collegiate Skeet and Sporting Clays Championships while also finishing second in sporting clays.

All of that led to the Iowa Collegiate Trap Championship, where Iowa Central scored silver.
