Tritons off to perfect start, top defending champs

The Iowa Central sport shooting team is 2-0 to begin the season after posting wins vs. Iowa Lakes and defending champion Iowa Western at home recently.

Over the weekend, the Tritons topped Iowa Lakes, 495-456. They followed that up with a 487-484 victory vs. the Reivers on Tuesday afternoon.

In the match with Iowa Lakes, Bryce Wade, William Shatzer, Carson Feeney, Drew Baxter and Sam Gammon all recorded 99s for the Tritons. 

Shatzer had a 98 to lead Iowa Central on the men's side vs. Iowa Western, placing second after losing a shoot-off. Taya Myers also had a 98 for the top score on the women's side. 

Wyatt Lindstrom was third with a 97 with Allison Jensen firing a 96 and Sarah England a 93. 

The five counting scores for the Tritons came from Shatzer, Myers, Lindstrom and both Gammon and Aiken Crowley, who had 97s.

Our kids shot well in tough conditions," Iowa Central head coach Terry Coleman said. "The north wind was making the targets move a lot and they stayed focused and got the job done. 

"It was a fun night at the range."

Iowa Central is now off until September 18 when they travel to Kirkwood. Next home action for the Tritons will be October 12 vs. Southwestern.
