Sports Shooting Dominates Home Contest with Southwestern

The Iowa Central Sports Shooting Team dominated its home meet with Southwestern Saturday September 23 at the Iowa Central Range.

The Tritons captured each team title, along with the top 3 individual men's and women's scores in each category.

The Trapshooting squad of Emma Chapin, Cody Dickerson, Nathan Swanson Claire Chapin and Kaelan Smith secured the team trap title with 491 points.

The top three individual men's trap finishers were Dickerson in first with 99 (tiebreaker Long Run 97), Swanson in second place with a 99 (tiebreaker Long Run 52) and Smith in third place with 97.

For women's trap, Emma Chapin finished in first place with a score of 99, Claire Chapin second with 97 and Keeley Waack in third place with 95.

The skeet team of Jacob Geis, Dickerson and Drew Crump finished first with a combined 287 points.

Individual medalists for men's skeet were Geis in first place with a 98, Dickerson with 97 for second place and Crump in third with 92.  Waack was the individual champion in women's skeet with a 77 (Long Run tiebreaker 15), Claire Chapin took second with 77 (Long Run tiebreaker 7), and Emma Chapin received third place with a 73.

The sporting clay team of Dickerson, Smith and Josh Kenkel came out on top with a combined score of 216.

The top-three men's sporting clay individuals -Smith, Dickerson and Kenkel- each shot a score of 72. A long run tie breaker determined their final places with Smith finishing first; Dickerson, second and Kenkel, third.

Rounding out the top-three for individual women's sporting clay were Waack with 60 in first place, Claire Chapin in second place with a 46 and Emma Chapin with 40 for third place.

"I have to say how proud I am of our team for staying mentally tough," said Sports Shooting Coach Jessica Gunderson. "We were out there for 10 hours, sat through a 2-hour weather delay, and still put up some really good scores."

The Tritons will next be in action vs. Buena Vista at the M&G Gun Club in Schaller on Wednesday September 27.
