Triton Sports Shooting Competes at Central Midwest Regionals

Iowa Central Sports Shooting is wrapping up fall season with regional and conference meets

The Iowa Central Sports Shooting Team Traveled to Sparta, Illinois to compete in the Central Midwest Regional Championships October 13-14.

The Tritons competed in six categories, including Doubles Skeet, Doubles Trap, Super Sporting, Sporting Clays, Skeet and Trap.

In Doubles Skeet, Iowa Central finished seventh overall out of a field of 15 with a score of 202, and first in junior college.

Jacob Geis and Tanner Onken each had a 46 in Doubles Skeet, Kaelan Smith and Cody Dickerson each shot 44 and Nathan Swanson had 42.

 

In Doubles Trap, Iowa Central finished in eighth place overall out of a field of 17 teams with a 226, and first place in junior college. Kaelan Smith and Chayden Wright each shot 47, Nathan Swanson had 45, Josh Kenkel 44 and Emma Chapin 43.  

In Super Sporting, Kaelan Smith shot 46, and Cody Dickerson, Jacob Geis Tanner Onken and Nate Bronk each shot 45, landing the Tritons in seventh place overall out of 17 teams with a total score of 226, which was a first-place finish in junior college.

The Tritons finished 11th out of 23 overall in Sporting Clays with 401 and third among junior colleges.

Kaelan Smith shot an 83, Chayden Wright 82, Jacob Geis 80, Cody Dickerson 79 and Drew Crump 77 in Sporting Clays for Iowa Central.

In Skeet, Iowa Central received seventh in a field of 22 teams and first place in junior college with a score of 465.

Cody Dickerson shot 95 in Skeet, Kaelan Smith and Kaleb Robinson each shot 94, Jacob Geis 93 and Grant Clark 89.

The Trap Team finished in fourth place overall out of 24 with a 487, also finishing first among junior colleges.

Josh Kenkel and Jacob Geis each shot 99, Aiden Westcott 97 and Cody Dickerson 97, and Chayden Wright 95 in Trap for the Tritons.

Iowa Central finished both the Classic All-Around and High Over All in eighth place and first in junior college.

The Tritons finished their regular season undefeated going into the Midwest Regionals. They will compete in the ICCAC Conference Championships on October 21 at the New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee.

"We are 100 percent leaps and bounds ahead of where we were a year ago at this time," said Sports Shooting Head Coach Jessica Gunderson. "Our kids are out there battling every day, they handle themselves well and are fully embracing being student athletes. They love to get out there and compete."
