Tritons finish 3rd High Overall at ACUI/SCTP National Championships

Triton Shooting Sports are always in the mix for a national title when they travel to the ACUI/SCTP National Championships in San Antonio, TX. This year was no different as the Tritons battled to a 3rd place High Overall finish.

The championships see 110 total schools competing across six days with over 1200 total athletes participating. Sixteen schools competed in the junior college division with seven competing for High Overall – which is a combination of all six events.

"I was proud of this team for staying focused all week long," said Triton Head Coach, Jessica Gunderson on how the Tritons competed. "The scores were not quite where we wanted them to be, but everyone kept fighting for every target."

The Tritons' American Skeet team of Cody Dickerson, Kaelan Smith, Josh Kenkel, Grant Clark, and Jacob Geis led the way with 479 of 500 targets and a second place finish. Dickerson and Smith both hit 98 of 100 targets.

Doubles Skeet, American Trap, and Sporting Clays all finished fourth with Super Sporting and Doubles Trap finishing in fifth place.

The Tritons also had ten team members earn the championship's Academic Achievement Award. Those ten student-athletes were Trevor Blauert, Aaron Boleyn, Nate Bronk, Cody Dickerson, Josh Kenkel, Hayden Koch, Kaelan Smith, Nathan Swanson, Jewell Ulrich, and Keeley Waack.

Being the final competition for the Triton sophomores, Coach Gunderson reflected on their time with the program. "We're going to be graduating a lot of team members who have shown great commitment to our program and led the way for our freshman," said Gunderson. "I'm confident our returners will learn and grow from their experiences and help lead next year's team towards great achievements."
