Tritons begin season at JUCO Kick-Off Classic

CLEARWATER, Fla. - There might still be snow on the ground in Iowa, but the Iowa Central softball team has opened their season.

The Tritons played a handful of games here over the past several days as part of the JUCO Kick-Off Classic. 

Overall, Iowa Central went 2-3, earning victories over Fayetteville Technical and Broward. They dropped a pair of one-run games to both Indian River State and St. Petersburg, along with a loss to Pasco-Hernando State.

As a team, the Tritons scored 22 runs and hit seven homers. Maggie Harvey, a former standout at both Fort Dodge Senior High and St. Edmond, hit three homers and drove in five runs during the trip.

Parker Mathews has a team-high seven hits already with two doubles, two homers and five RBI. Mackenzie Rosenboom has five hits, two homers and has driven in five runs, with Payton Andersen leading the team with three steals. 

Inside the circle, Abby DeJoode picked up two wins and struck out 10 batters. 

Iowa Central will head to Texas for the Cowtown Classic Jan. 14-15.
