Another split for Iowa Central in Kansas

OTTAWA, Kan. - The 17th-ranked Iowa Central softball team finished with another split here on Sunday.

The Tritons dropped the opener to Ottawa JV, 4-2, before rebounding to win the nightcap, 8-7 in extra innings.

Former Fort Dodge Senior High standout Loghen Schnetzer sent the game to extras with a two-run homer in the seventh, helping Iowa Central (4-6 overall) overcome a 5-0 deficit. Schnetzer and Abbie Thilges each had a triple.

Carlie Thompson recorded a double and Megan Poole and Rachel Newell had singles in the three-run eighth. Madison Huisman earned the win in relief, striking out six including the final out with the bases loaded.

Kayla Wookey had four strikeouts in the contest. 

In the opener, Mikhaela Muir had seven strikeouts with Kenzie Rosenboom and Schnetzer each belting home runs. 

Iowa Central heads to Fayetteville, Ark. beginning Friday for a series of games.
