Tritons pick up a split with Illinois Central

PEORIA, Ill. - The Iowa Central softball team came away with another split here on Friday with Illinois Central.

After dropping the opener, 7-5, the Tritons rebounded to post a 7-4 victory.

Madison Huisman struck out 11 to earn the win inside the circle with Laila Pelds belting a homer to pace the Iowa Central (6-8 overall) offense. 

Pelds drove in two runs on two hits while Abbie Thilges, Loghen Schnetzer and Carlie Thompson all drove in a run. Thilges stole four bases and had three hits and Mikhaela Muir had a triple.

The Tritons scored three in the first, one in the second and two more in the third to take control of the contest. 

In the first game, Thompson was 3-for-3 and Muir had a home run, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Megan Poole and Allyson Stewart each drove in a run.

Iowa Central begins ICCAC play on Wednesday, hosting North Iowa Area at Rogers Park.
