Tritons plate 27 in sweep of Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN - The 14th-ranked Iowa Central softball team plated 27 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Marshalltown here Saturday to begin the ICCAC schedule.

Scores were 13-3 in five innings and 14-2 in six.

The Tritons (8-8 overall, 2-0 in ICCAC) have won four of their last five overall, but due to weather, these were their first games since a split with Illinois Central on March 12.

"For as long as we have gone between games, I was happy to see our bats get going right from the start," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "I told the girls before the game that these are the ones we have to win because of how deep and tough our conference is, so it was good to see them come out and take care of business."

Abbie Thilges drove in five runs in the opener, going 3-for-3 with a triple. Thilges and Carlie Thompson each had two-RBI hits in a six-run second.

Kayla Wookey earned the win, striking out five over four innings.

In the second game, Loghen Schnetzer connected on a home run and Thilges, Schnetzer, Thompson and Mikhaela Muir all had doubles.

Kryslynn Ruppert had an RBI hit in a 10-run sixth that turned a 2-2 game into a Triton victory. Madison Huisman earned the victory inside the circle, striking out nine.

"We got everybody in and everybody an at-bat," Tjebben said. "Kryslynn, who has been working so hard in practice, got two hits there in that second game and you should have seen the smile on her face."

Iowa Central plays Marshalltown in another doubleheader back here on Sunday beginning at noon.
