No. 11 Tritons split at Ellsworth

IOWA FALLS - The 11th-ranked Iowa Central softball team left here Friday with a split vs. Ellsworth.

After scoring a 8-5 victory in the opener, the Tritons dropped the nightcap, 14-13.

Loghen Schnetzer connected on a grand slam in the fourth and Laila Pelds drove in two. Carlie Thompson recorded three hits and scored a run, Abby Wilson and Schnetzer each had two hits, and Rachel Newell scored two runs and scored twice. 

Mikhaela Muir pitched five innings, striking out three to earn the win while Madison Huisman tossed the final two innings with four strikeouts for Iowa Central (18-10 overall, 12-2 in ICCAC).

In the second game, Schnetzer again went deep with Paytton Crawford also belting a homer. Schnetzer was 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs, Wilson had four hits, three runs and stole three bases, and Pelds had three hits with an RBI and a run.

Abbie Thilges drove in two, Thompson, Muir and Crawford each had two hits, and Newell scored twice. Crawford also had a pair of RBI.

"We just have to keep plugging away and eliminate some of the little mistakes," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "That, and get everyone healthy."

The Tritons take on Ellsworth in another doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
