Triton bats explode in sweep of NIACC

MASON CITY - The Iowa Central softball team had a big day here Tuesday, sweeping North Iowa Area.

Scores were 18-7 and 9-7.

Abby Wilson, Mady Lange, Loghen Schnetzer, Kenzie Rosenboom and Carlie Thompson all collected three hits each in the opener, driving in a total of 12 runs. They also scored 15 times for the Tritons.

Thompson, Schnetzer, Lange and Megan Poole each hit a homer, with Paytton Crawford and Rachel Newell also driving in two runs each.

"It felt good to get right back out there and play after this weekend," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "We gave them Monday off and you could see a nice bounce in their step out there. We were patient and attacked, and the result was a strong hitting day for everybody."

Kayla Wookey struck out six and Mikhaela Muir five, with Muir finishing it off by allowing just one hit over the final three innings.

In the nightcap, Rosenboom and Thompson went deep with Muir going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs. Thompson and Schnetzer collected two hits and scored twice each with Allyson Stewart also recording two hits.

Madison Huisman struck out 12 to earn the win.

Iowa Central returns to action Wednesday in Norfolk, Neb. vs. Northeast.
