Schnetzer's five HRs powers Tritons

NORFOLK, Neb. - Maybe it was leaving her phone at home. Maybe it was playing in Nebraska.

Whatever it was, Loghen Schnetzer was locked in here Wednesday for the Iowa Central softball team.

Schnetzer, who was an all-stater at Fort Dodge Senior High and left as the program leader for career and single-season home runs, belted five homers in a doubleheader vs. Northeast, including four in one game.

"No, I've never done that before," Schnetzer said. "I just kept my hands high and swung. I wasn't really trying to go for four, but it just happened."

The power display helped the Tritons score a sweep by scores of 23-3 and 20-5.

"I've never seen anything like it," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "She was locked in to say the least. The girls just really are feeling it at the plate right now."

Schnetzer admitted she felt like a walk was coming in her final at-bat.

"She threw me three balls and a strike," she said. "Honestly, that fifth pitch, I was going to swing no matter where it was."

In the opener, Schnetzer was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, three runs and a homer while Kenzie Rosenboom, Abby Wilson and Carlie Thompson all went deep. Wilson, hitting out of the leadoff spot, was 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored.

Rosenboom had three hits, six RBI and scored three times with Mady Lange recording three hits, three rbi, three runs and a steal. Paytton Crawford had two hits and two runs with Rachel Newell stealing two bases.

That was enough support for Madison Huisman, as she struck out four over four innings.

Schnetzer was 4-for-4 with nine RBI and four runs in the second contest, also reaching on a walk. Wilson had three hits, three RBI and three runs, Mikhaela Muir drove in three runs and tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts, and Lange scored three times and stole two bases.

Wilson, Rosenboom and Muir all added homers.

In the past four games, Iowa Central has scored 70 runs. Schnetzer is up to 21 homers with 61 RBI and 45 runs scored on the season.

"We're just playing with a lot of confidence," Schnetzer said. "Now, we need to carry that into the weekend."

The Tritons will head to Council Bluffs to face Iowa Western Saturday and Sunday.
