Iowa Central responds on the road

COUNCIL BLUFFS - The Iowa Central softball team did exactly what head coach Bo Tjebben hoped to see here Sunday.

A day after being swept by Iowa Western, the Tritons returned the favor, taking two by scores of 4-2 and 6-0.

"We responded," Tjebben said. "Honestly, I'm still not sure what happened on Saturday, but the girls showed the kind of fight, heart and determination I expected out of them all season. We aren't the biggest team or the deepest team, but we'll give it everything we can out there on the diamond.

"I'm proud of them for that."

Down 2-1 going to the seventh in the opener, Iowa Central responded with three runs to take the lead. Emily English recorded the win inside the circle, striking out a pair over three-plus innings of work.

Abby Wilson had two hits with Kenzie Rosenboom driving in one. Wilson and Mady Lange each stole a base as Wilson, Lange, Allyson Stewart and Rachel Newell all scored.

The Tritons plated two runs in the second, two more in the fifth and another two in the sixth in support of Madison Huisman and Mikhaela Muir. The two combined for 10 strikeouts, just two walks and only five hits allowed.

"I thought all of our pitchers stepped up," Tjebben said. "We played much better behind them and you could tell they were able to feed of the play of their defense."

Rosenboom and Kryslynn Ruppert each had a double with Paytton Crawford going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Lange stole three bases, Newell two and Crawford one.

Lange also had two runs and Newell two hits.

Iowa Central returns home to play Northeast on Wednesday at Rogers Park.
