Iowa Central ends weekend with win

The Iowa Central softball team ended a weekend series with Iowa Lakes by scoring a thrilling victory.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Olivia Harmon plated Chloe Mickelson for the game-winning run to give the Tritons a 5-4 victory.

The Lakers won the opener, 12-1.

Mackenzie Crampton earned the win, striking out one with just one earned run allowed on nine hits. Mady Lange drove in two with Amber McKinney adding an RBI.

McKinney, Lange, Sydney Ballard and Kryslynn Ruppert each had a hit for the Tritons, who snapped a three-game losing skid with the win.

"We showed a lot of toughness after losing the first games both days," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "The girls kept fighting and we finally found a way there (Sunday). I thought we should have won the second game Saturday, but it feels good to get out of this weekend with one.

"We're banged up right now so we've got a lot of girls filling holes for us."

Jori Hajek had an RBI in the opener with McKinney and Loghen Schnetzer each recording two hits. Thompson, Ballard, Lange and Hajek each had a hit.

Iowa Central returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader against the William Penn JV in Oskaloosa.
