Tritons sweep past NIACC on diamond

The Iowa Central softball team got into a red-hot offensive rhythm despite the chilly temperatures here Sunday at Rogers Park, sweeping North Iowa Area.

Scores were 9-1 and 12-4.

Mackenzie Crampton tossed a two-hitter in the opener, striking out five for the Tritons (14-10 overall, 3-3 in ICCAC). The former Southeast Valley standout walked just one batter.

Jori Hajek was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Amber McKinney and Myra Megli each drove in two.

"It felt good to see the girls swing the bats," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "We got into a good routine and showed what we can do. I know it was far from ideal in terms of the weather, but we were ready to go and played well."

After falling behind 1-0 early, the Tritons plated two runs in the third and three in both the fourth and fifth innings. Olivia Harmon also drove in a run with Loghen Schnetzer scoring twice and drawing two walks with a hit.

Sydney Ballard, Sophia Klinger and Ayden Pollitt each scored a run.

The offense carried over into the second game, as Iowa Central scored two quick runs in the first. The Trojans took a 3-2 lead before the Tritons answered with two runs in the bottom of the third.

Carlie Thompson and Hajek each had a home run with Hajek driving in four and Thompson two. Both had three hits each.

Schnetzer was 2-for-2 with two runs, two walks and an RBI, while Kryslynn Ruppert and Mikahela Muir each had an RBI.

"Up-and-down the lineup we had girls producing," Tjebben said. "This was the kind of hitting we saw in the offseason and in Florida, so hopefully we can keep it going strong."

Harmon reached three times with two walks and a hit, scoring twice.

Olivia Engler earned the win, striking out five batters.

These two teams will square off again back here for another doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
