Iowa Central sweeps in home finale

Mady Lange delivered some late-game heroics in her final contest at Rogers Park here Tuesday for the Iowa Central softball team.

Lange hit a grand slam in the sixth inning of game two, helping the Tritons score a 14-10 victory over Southwestern.

Iowa Central also won the opener, 7-5, in the last scheduled home games this year.

Lange, a sophomore and graduate of Humboldt, had the big hit in an eight-run sixth. She finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Olivia Harmon, Loghen Schnetzer and Amber McKinney each had three hits, with Harmon scoring three times. Schnetzer, a sophomore, drove in two with a double. Harmon had a triple and Riley Gilroy, the reigning ICCAC player of the week, was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

"We needed this," Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. "After playing DMACC this past weekend, it was great to get back out here and earn two wins."

Carlie Thompson, another sophomore, and Jori Hajek each had an RBI. Olivia Engler earned the win inside the circle, recording eight outs with four strikeouts.

In the opener, Schnetzer had a homer and drove in two, Thompson had two hits and drove in three, and both Lange and sophomore Mikhaela Muir had an RBI.

Taylor Lee went five innings, striking out a pair to earn the win.

"It wasn't always perfect, but anytime you can pick up a sweep in this conference, you'll take it," Tjebben said. "And as an added bonus, it was great to honor the sophomores with two wins at home."

Iowa Central hits the road to face Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids this weekend for a four-game slate.
