Triton Softball Makes Debut at New Home Field

After playing the first 21 games of their 2025 campaign on the road, the day Triton Softball had been looking forward finally happened on Thursday (3/27) as they played the first games at their new turf complex at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.

Finished last summer in time for use at the 2024 IGHSAU Girls State Softball Tournament, the new field was ready for the Tritons to practice on during the fall and their first official games have been highly anticipated.

"What a thrill it was to watch our Triton Softball squad compete on the "new home" for Iowa Central Softball this past Thursday and Friday. Our turf field at Harlan Rogers is an absolute game changer for our student-athletes," said Iowa Central Athletic Director, Kevin Twait. "From more productive practices (our spring wet weather not a factor now), to advantages in recruiting, to the game day experience for our student-athletes, this project is truly a home run for us and our community."

The #19 Tritons split (7-10, 4-0) in their battle with #10 Kirkwood on Thursday and would do the same against #14 NIACC on Friday (3/28) afternoon. The Tritons shutout Kirkwood for 13 of the 14 innings played with sophomore, Jada Long throwing a complete game four-hit gem in the second game to pick up her ninth win of the season. Sydney Wilson hit the first home run in the new complex with a three-run shot in the fifth inning of the opener.

Friday saw very tough conditions with high winds and similar results as the Tritons split (0-9, 8-3) with NIACC. A seven-run third inning would cost the Tritons in the opening matchup, but they would do the same to the Trojans and score seven of their own in the fifth inning of game two to secure the 8-3 victory. Breanna Nolte and Natalie Rasmussen both had two RBI and Jadeyn Stahr picked up the win on the mound.

"It was great to finally get play at home on our new field after a lot of traveling," said Triton Head Coach, Bo Tjebben. "The girls were very excited as well. We played well against two ranked powerhouses in our conference. It was nice to get a split with both NIACC and Kirkwood."

The Tritons are right back in home action on Tuesday (4/1) afternoon in a double-header with Marshalltown. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
