Brittany West brought her incredible shooting touch to Iowa Central, helping lead the Tritons to plenty of success over her two seasons in uniform.

Now, West is doing the same at William Penn University. 

West, a junior, is third on the team in scoring at 8.2 points per game. She is shooting 38 percent from the floor and 36 percent from the 3-point line, showing the same skills that she continued to develop as a Triton. 

"The transition from high school to Iowa Central helped me both on and off the court," West said. "On the court, I was able to pick up on the speed of the college game and off it I was able to learn how to manage time when it comes to the classroom, practice and every day things. 

"Coming to William Penn, it made it a lot easier because I knew what to expect; I just had to learn how to do it in a new environment."

Through 14 games, West is also averaging just over four rebounds per game and has made eight starts. She has knocked down 27 three-pointers, which is second on the team. 

"I've had to make a few adjustments at this level, including the speed of the game," West said. "I have to know how hard I have to cut and move in order to get open how I want to, which is different than how it was at the JUCO level."

William Penn is currently 10-4 on the year and 6-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. They have won six of their last seven overall and play host to Peru State Monday night. 

"As the year has progressed, I think I am becoming more confident in my game playing within the system I have learned at William Penn," she said. "Being so comfortable with how things were done at Iowa Central, I had to learn to get comfortable and become confident with my game within how things are ran here.

"Team-wise as the year progresses I think we all just need to continue to buy in and understand how good we can be when we do all the little things right."

West also has remembered several moments taught by the Iowa Central coaching staff including head coach Kelly Kruger.

"A big lesson you hear all the time is to enjoy playing while you can," West said. "This is something I think about a lot because I've got next year and half a season this year left to play and I feel like I have so much left to accomplish.

"I think it's really important for me to get into the rest of my season and next season enjoying the moments and putting in the work now so in the long run, I know I gave my all."
