Tritons score road victory over Ellsworth

IOWA FALLS - Coming off a tough loss and playing on the road for the first time this season, the Iowa Central women came together in a strong way here Wednesday night, rolling past Ellsworth, 76-51.

For former Webster City standout and Triton freshman Taylor McKinney, it was just the kind of performance they needed after Saturday's setback to Iowa Western.

McKinney scored six with Isabell West recording a game-high 23 points to lead the way. West also had 20 rebounds to go along with five assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

"It was something we needed as a team after our close loss," McKinney said. "We knew we had to bounce back quickly and not let that loss get to our heads. That's exactly what we did against Ellsworth."

Iowa Central (2-1 overall, 2-1 in ICCAC) jumped out to a 23-15 lead after the first quarter, using a 6-2 run. They continued clicking in the second, building a 15-point cushion before

That momentum carried over into the third, as the Tritons used a 12-4 run to take command, leading 52-32. Iowa Central finished the game 17-for-25 from the free throw line and buried seven three-pointers.

"It was a great road win," McKinney said. "We hope to do the exact same this coming Saturday."

Nevaeh Galloway, who earned both league and national player of the week honors, added 11 points with sophomore Jordan Engbrecht picking up 10 as part of a balanced effort by the Tritons. Galloway had her third double-double in three games with 10 rebounds.

"It was good to bounce back," Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. "I thought we played well on the offensive end, getting 10 players in the box score. It was a good performance by the girls."

The Tritons return to action on Saturday at Southwestern in Creston. The Spartans (1-2, 1-1) fell to No. 22 Iowa Western last night, 100-44.
