Spirited rally not enough for Iowa Central on road

CRESTON - A spirited fourth-quarter rally was not enough to lift the Iowa Central women here Saturday, as the Tritons fell to Southwestern, 70-67.

Isabell West recorded her second double-double of the year, scoring 23 points with 13 rebounds to lead Iowa Central (2-2 overall, 2-2 in ICCAC). Carley West had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists in her season debut while Nevaeh Galloway added 13 with eight boards.

The Tritons overcame an eight-point deficit to make it a one-possession game late. After a technical foul was called on Southwestern, Taylor McKinney sank both free throws to make it 69-67 in favor of the Spartans.

An offensive foul was called on Iowa Central, though, and Southwestern (3-1, 2-0) converted on the other end.

Galloway scored eight in the final 10 minutes of play and Isabell West had 15 in the second half. McKinney added six points and Nevaeh Moeschter had six rebounds.

The Tritons had 20 offensive rebounds as a team with both Galloway and Isabell West adding two blocks each.

For the Spartans, Brielle Baker had 28 points and Kaylynn Tucker 21.

Iowa Central returns to action on Wednesday when they host Des Moines Area (3-1, 3-1) at 5 p.m. inside Hodges Fieldhouse. The Bears scored a 78-66 victory over Iowa Lakes Saturday.
