Balance effort lifts Tritons past Marshalltown

Carley West, Nevaeh Moeschter and Isabell West all scored in double figures to lead the Iowa Central women past Marshalltown here Saturday inside Hodges Fieldhouse, 72-61.

The Tritons (4-4 overall, 4-4 in ICCAC) have now won two in a row after a three-game slide to get back to the .500 mark on the season.

Carley West, a freshman, notched a career-high 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the floor while sophomore Isabell West recorded her sixth consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Moeschter had 17 points and five steals.

"It was a little rough there in the first quarter, but once we started getting into our defense, it picked up," Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. "I thought our defensive really fueled our offense and provided a spark. We were able to create points off steals and stops."

Nevaeh Galloway added seven rebounds and six blocked shots for the Tritons with Autumn Dykstra and Jordan Engbrecht each scoring eight. Sherynn Titus chipped in six points on a pair of made 3-pointers.

"It was good to see Carley get on track," Ortmeier said. "I thought she did a nice job of getting open looks and converting. Galloway and Titus off the bench were big with 23 combined points."

Marshalltown (1-6, 1-6) took an early lead and used a 9-2 run near the end of the first to gain control. The Tritons, though, came out firing in the second quarter, taking command by outscoring the Tigers 20-15.

Moeschter had eight and Carley West seven in the opening 20 minutes.

For Isabell West, this marked her 14th career double-double and the 31st time she has scored in double figures with Iowa Central. She also has 14 double-digit rebound games.

The Tritons return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Council Bluffs to face Iowa Western (9-2, 9-1) for a second time. The Reivers, who downed Des Moines Area on Saturday, 90-57, won the first meeting last month, 75-72.
