Tritons come up short vs. Iowa Lakes

The Iowa Central women were denied their fifth victory of the season here Wednesday night, falling to Iowa Lakes inside Hodges Fieldhouse, 68-63.

After falling behind early, the Tritons (4-7 overall, 4-7 in ICCAC) battled back.

Isabell West scored 27 points with 20 rebounds to lead the way while Carley West added 12 and Nevaeh Moeschter had 11. Nevaeh Galloway added eight points and 10 rebounds.

"We have to learn to do a better job of closing out the little things," Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. "We did a nice job of coming back there in the second half, but we let a shooter get loose or didn't get a rebound. We had it down to a one possession game and all of a sudden it was back to a three possession game."

For the Lakers (6-7, 6-7), Jaeda Whitner scored 21 points, making five 3-pointers. She had 19 in the first half as Iowa Lakes built an eight-point lead. Rachel Breck added 14 points, Rachel Puok 10 and Kariana Lohf 11 rebounds.

"They kind of muddy the game up," Ortmeier said. "We didn't do a good job of recognizing that and working on what we wanted to do."

Iowa Central had the deficit down to six with just under a minute to play after Iowa Lakes missed three free throws. The Tritons were unable to take advantage, though, and the Lakers sealed the victory.

Next action for Iowa Central will be on Saturday when they travel to Southeastern for a 1 p.m. contest.
