Iowa Central cruises to another victory

Twenty-four hours after kicking off the season with a win, the Iowa Central women were right back on the court.

The 16th-ranked Tritons had no trouble improving to 2-0 on the year with a convincing 72-25 victory over the Graceland JV here Tuesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

On Monday, Iowa Central (2-0 overall) got past the Mount Marty JV, 67-50.

Autumn Dykstra scored 10 points to lead the way as all 14 players scored at least two points.

"I was impressed with our intensity and pressure," Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. "Coming right back and playing the next night, those things don't always show up. But our girls were focused and got right after it.

"And we were able to get everybody really good minutes, which early in the season is extremely important."

Ashley Fountain added nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists, Carley West had eight points and four steals, Nevaeh Galloway recorded seven points with seven rebounds, four blocks, two assists and a steal, and Jayden Frank had three steals with a pair of assists.

"The starters didn't play much, but they were productive," Ortmeier said. "We are still working on several things and it's always good to continue taking steps forward as we proceed into the season."

Kayla Griffith had six points and six boards with two steals and two assists off the bench, with Nevaeh Moeschter and Ajla Dzelic adding four points each.

Iowa Central forced Graceland into 35 turnovers and held them to just 9-percent shooting from the 3-point line and 7 of 51 from the field. Melody Alo had a team-high eight points off the bench.

"We showed a lot of energy throughout," Ortmeier said. "Our press was effective and that allowed us to get those girls in for some extended playing time. It was good to see them work the ball and continue to play hard on the defensive side."

Taylor McKinney had three steals, Chloe Lewandowski blocked two shots and had two assists, and Rachel Sporrer added three points with four rebounds and a steal.

The Tritons are now off until next Tuesday when they host the Buena Vista JV beginning at 5 p.m.
