West, No. 18 Tritons run past Ellsworth

Carley West scored 18 points to spearhead a huge second quarter and carry the 18th-ranked Iowa Central women past Ellsworth here Saturday afternoon, 92-48.

West finished with a team-high 29 points, 27 of which came in the first half inside Hodges Fieldhouse. 

Taylor McKinney knocked down five 3-pointers to score 17, Nevaeh Galloway added 14 and Nevaeh Moeschter 11 for the Tritons (11-0 overall, 3-0 in ICCAC). 

"We made a little run there to finish the first and that carried over into the second," Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. "We remained patient on offense and continued to attack, especially Carley. We shot the ball well and did a nice job of attacking the boards."

Iowa Central turned a 20-15 lead into a 31-15 advantage thanks to an 11-0 run over the first and second quarters. They extended it to 28 when West knocked down a triple to make it 50-22, as she had outscored the Panthers, 23-22, at that time. 

"This is always a tough game coming off finals and with the break approaching," Ortmeier said. "Our focus was really good and we did a nice job finishing."

The Tritons had 13 steals and made 13 three-pointers, finishing the game 32 of 68 from the field. West also had eight rebounds and two assists, with Ashley Fountain adding nine rebounds. 

Eleven different players scored for Iowa Central. 

Aaliyah Chambers had 29 points to lead Ellsworth, with Autumn Shull scoring 18. Hydiyah Robinson had 10 rebounds and five assists. 

The Tritons close out the 2021 portion of their schedule Wednesday at Marshalltown.
