Quick start lifts Kirkwood past Iowa Central

CEDAR RAPIDS - The No. 19 Iowa Central women suffered their first loss of the season here Saturday, falling to second-ranked Kirkwood, 84-50.

The Eagles (15-1 overall, 6-0 in ICCAC) jumped out to a 24-10 lead after the first, shooting 11-for-22 from the field as Kortney Drake scored seven and Karsyn Stratton six.

Ashley Tull finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Kirkwood, while Drake and Stratton each had 10. The Eagles also held a 44-18 advantage on the glass and outscored the Tritons (14-1, 4-1) in the paint, 38-12.

Autumn Dykstra led Iowa Central with 24 points, knocking down six 3-pointers. Carley West added 11 points with four steals and three blocks, while Taylor McKinney chipped in six. 

The Tritons will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Northeast at 5:30 p.m. inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
