Tritons denied by Iowa Lakes

The Iowa Central women dropped a tough 69-63 decision to Iowa Lakes here Wednesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

Carley West finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, Jayden Frank had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Autumn Dykstra added 12 for the Tritons (22-6 overall, 12-6 in ICCAC), who suffered their second consecutive loss.

"Rebounding and cutting off the drive," Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. "Those two areas have been our biggest weakness here lately and they really hurt us again (Wednesday night)."

The Lakers held a 53-35 edge on the glass, including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jaeda Whitner scored 18 points with Brielle Bartelt adding 15. Rachel Breck had 13 rebounds and Ihari Oromo 12, including 10 offensive boards.

Iowa Central battled back from a 22-11 deficit after one, cutting it to 25-11 with an 11-1 run. Iowa Lakes, though, answered right back and would keep the Tritons at bay from there.

"We've got time now before the postseason to clean these things up," Ortmeier said. "We'll go back to work on doing just that."

The Tritons got within two several times and had it down to 65-50 after a Taylor McKinney 3-pointer late, but could not get any closer.

Nevaeh Galloway added eight points with eight rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists, while McKinney had seven points.

Iowa Central closes the regular season next Wednesday at Northeast before hosting a Region XI Tournament game in March.
