Tritons come up short in regional semifinal

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Iowa Central women were knocked out of the Region XI Tournament in the semifinals here Saturday at the hand of No. 8 Iowa Western, 86-71.

After taking a one-point lead into the break, the Tritons were outscored by the Reivers in the third, 27-18. 

Carley West scored 28 points with nine rebounds, Ashley Fountain played the entire 40 minutes, scoring 17 points with five assists and two steals, and Jayden Frank added 15 points, six boards, three assists, a steal and a block to lead Iowa Central.

For Iowa Western, Courtney Fields and Aleshia Jones each tallied 19 points, while Ndidiamaka Ndukwe added 11. E'Laiyah Heard had five points and 12 rebounds. 

West had a big second quarter, scoring 13 points. But it was Fields and Ndukwe who helped the Reivers pull in front with 16 combined points in the third. 

Iowa Western also held a plus-22 advantage in total rebounds and outscored the Tritons on second-chance points, 28-5. 

The Reivers will now face top-ranked Kirkwood on Sunday for the regional title.
