Council Bluffs - Despite coming up short 67-72, the Iowa Central Triton Women played a strong game here Sunday afternoon vs. No. 6 Iowa Western to wrap up the 2023 portion of the season.

"Our team played hard for 40 minutes today and rallied back from a 10 point deficit," said Triton Head Coach Sabah Dickerson. "We had chances throughout the game but weren't able to capitalize on each of them. We are very proud of the poise and composure that our team demonstrated."

Mia Danielson, a freshman forward, had a breakthrough game with 16 points. Sophomore Kaitlyn Tendal added 15 for the Tritons.

"Mia Danielson has shown serious improvements over the last few weeks and knocked down quality shots for us," said Dickerson.  "We are fortunate that we can have multiple players in double figures each night."

Laney Pilcher had nine points and four rebounds and was three for four from the line. Emily Theiss added seven points, Amaya Terrell six, and Alyssa Lux five points each off the bench for Iowa Central.

The Tritons go into the winter break 9-3 overall and 1-3 in ICCAC league play. They will return to action on January 3 with a road game against Marshalltown.

"Our next big test is finals week," Dickerson said. "We are looking forward to getting our kids some rest before we return to action in January at Marshalltown."
