Tritons Stop Tigers 77-56 in First Game of 2024

Mashalltown – The Iowa Central Triton Women's Basketball team played a strong first half to win the first game back from winter break 77-56 here Wednesday.

The Tritons, (10-3 overall 2-2 ICCAC) outscored the Tigers 28-8 in the first quarter and finished the half with a 45-21 lead.

"The first game back after an extended break is always a bit tricky as most teams are rusty," said Triton Head Coach Sabah Dickerson. "Our team came out of the gate and had a tremendous first half."

Sophomore Kaitlyn Tendal led the Tritons with 15 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Laney Pilcher had 14 points followed by Emily Theiss with 11 points off the bench.

"We were able to extend our bench tonight as well and share the wealth," said Dickerson.

Freshmen Lainey Maehl and Alicia Hatlestad each added 10 points for the Tritons.

 Mia Danielson had seven points, Amaya Terrell added five, Olivia Miller three points and Alyssa Lux two points for the Tritons.

"We played all of the small details right to earn our second conference win of the season," Dickerson said. "Our group responded well to Marshalltown as they tried to make a run at us. It was a quality team effort to secure the win". 

The Tritons will host Southwester in a women's and men's doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Hodges Fieldhouse.
