Triton Women Fall to No. 4 Kirkwood

Iowa Central Women lose to Kirkwood 81-54 Saturday

CEDAR RAPIDS — Fourth-ranked (NJCAA (Div. II) Kirkwood improved to 19-2 on the season with an 81-54 victory over the Iowa Central women on Saturday.

The Eagles, who are now a league-best 10-1 in the ICCAC, jumped ahead 23-12 by the end of the first period, then extended a 13-point halftime lead with a 28-11 third-quarter edge.

Laney Pilcher paced the Tritons (15-4, 7-4) with 14 points and six rebounds. Alicia Hatlestad (eight points, seven rebounds) and Kaitlyn Tendal (eight and six) followed.

Reserve Jordan Mayland dished out six assists for Iowa Central. Former Fort Dodge Dodger Lainey Maehl added six points and four rebounds.

Iowa Central made eight shots from behind the arc, but struggled from two-point range, converting on only 10 of 37 attempts.

Demetria Prewitt led all scorers with 19 points for Kirkwood.

The Tritons face the Eagles again on Monday inside Hodges Fieldhouse, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
