Triton Women Battle Against No. 4 Eagles

Two days after coming up short vs. fourth-ranked Kirkwood on the road, the Iowa Central women were unable to change the end result here Monday evening.

The Eagles used a 33-point third quarter to claim a 92-73 victory inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

All five Kirkwood starters scored in double figures, as Zhakyla Evans had 16. Kaylee Corbin added 15, Emily Dreckman and Jenna Twedt each scored 14, and Demetria Prewitt chipped in 12.

For the Tritons (15-5 overall, 7-5 in ICCAC), Laney Pilcher had a game-high 19 and Kaitlyn Tendal added 13.

"We are really proud of how much our team battled," ICCC head coach Sabah Dickerson said. "Kirkwood has been a solid team in our region and they don't make a lot of errors.

"Our team kept pushing to make a run at them and that's progress from our first matchup this season."

Leading by six after the opening 10 minutes, the Eagles used a 21-12 second to take control at the break. As a team, Kirkwood knocked down 17 triples and forced 16 turnovers.

"Alyssa Lux did a lot of great things that aren't always recorded in the stat book," Dickerson said. "Alicia Hatlestad and Laney were strong in sticking to their strengths.

"Our team has fight and can use this game as we approach the final third of our season."

Lux had seven points off the bench, with Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Lainey Maehl adding six and four assists. Hatlestad had 10 points, four assists and three rebounds.

The Tritons return to action Wednesday when they travel to Mason City to face North Iowa Area. Earlier this year, the Trojans posted a 78-63 victory in the series.
