CEDAR RAPIDS — The Kirkwood women claimed the Region XI-A title here Monday night over Iowa Central, 86-63.

The Eagles, who won their fourth straight regional crown, advance to the North Central-A championship game on Saturday where they will host Southeast (Neb.) for a spot in the NJCAA Tournament. The Tritons see their season end with a record of 21-9.

Fort Dodge Senior High grad Lainey Maehl had a team-high 16 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. She also grabbed seven rebounds for Iowa Central.

Emily Theiss scored 11, Jordan Mayland had 10 and Laney Pilcher added nine points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Both Maehl and Pilcher made the all-tournament team.

"We have to give credit to Kirkwood. Coach Muhl is a phenomenal coach and his teams are always very disciplined," ICCC head coach Sabah Dickerson said. "You have to play a perfect game to get past a team like that and unfortunately, we came up short.

"We have a lot to be grateful for this season. Iowa Central was selected seventh in the Region XI preseason poll and our team overcame that. This group had some big wins, tough losses, and were fun to coach. We will certainly miss our sophomore class but we know that each will be successful in their own right."

Jenna Twedt had a game-high 25 points to lead Kirkwood, as Emily Dreckman added 17 points. Demetria Prewitt had 16 points and 13 rebounds with Zhakyla Evans recording six points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

In the Region XI-B Tournament, Iowa Western topped North Iowa Area, 111-89. The Reivers head to United Tribes Tech in North Dakota on Saturday for the North Central-B championship.
