Strong Defensive Effort Leads Tritons to 71-51 Victory

A strong defensive effort led the Triton Women (4-0) to a 71-51 victory over Central Columbus (NE) on Wednesday (11/13) night in Hodges Fieldhouse. The Tritons held the Raiders to four third quarter points and forced 22 turnovers.

Triton Head Coach, Sabah Dickerson was happy with how the Tritons responded, "We forced 22 turnovers tonight and again, outrebounded (50-34) our opponent which helped us to build up our lead. We have to continue to defend and get consecutive stops, and of course – play composed as a team."

On a night when their defensive play was solid, offensively the Tritons got off to a slow start before finding a better rhythm in the second half. The Tritons scored 16 points off of turnovers and finished 26-of-66 (39%) from the floor with their bench contributing 26 points.

"That was certainly not the start that we wanted, however our team responded in the 2nd half of the contest. We have to continue to grow maturity wise, and that's not something that happens overnight. It's a long season, so our challenge is to continue to grow as a team. We shot a bit poorly tonight and that happens, we were successful in getting the right shots at the right people when we needed them." said Dickerson.

Olivia Miller led the Tritons with 16 points, four assists, and five rebounds. Lainey Maehl scored 11 points with eight rebounds and Ashlin Jacobsen added 12 points and three steals off of the bench.

Up next for the Tritons is a trip to Lincoln, NE on Sunday (11/17) for a matchup with Southeast Community College. Tipoff is 12:00 PM.
