Back in The Win Column With Victory over Waldorf JV
The Triton Women got back in the win column on Saturday (11/30) at the perfect time before starting ICCAC conference play and a tough stretch of upcoming games in December.
The Tritons started slow with only 14 points in the first quarter and trailed by seven before scoring 31 points in the second to establish a lead that they would hold the rest of the way. The Warriors battled back to tie at 54-54 just before the end of the third quarter, but the Tritons would never trail in the second half of the 65-62 victory.
The Tritons forced 22 turnovers that led to 19 points and had 16 2nd chance points to only four for the Warriors.
Triton Head Coach, Sabah Dickerson, was happy with the way her team responded to the slow start. "Although we looked pretty loose at shootaround, we came out flat in the first quarter." said Dickerson. "Our team responded to the pace that Waldorf tried to establish and we had a strong second quarter. They changed to a zone defense in the second half to eliminate our driving lanes and we were still able to find good looks once we settled down."
Ashlin Jacobsen had another big day with 20 points to lead the way for the Tritons. Hannah Bogdonovich added 14 points and 5 rebounds. Lainey Maehl pulled down 12 rebounds to go with nine points and two steals.
"We challenged our team to play for 40 minutes and snap our losing streak." said Dickerson on the Tritons continuing to battle for wins. "Our offensive goal is to be able to score effectively on all three levels: finishing, midrange, and threes. We are happy that we closed out this game as Waldorf stayed aggressive late. Now we turn our attention to conference play. December is loaded and we have to continue to improve one game at a time."
The Tritons travel to Cedar Rapids on Wednesday (11/4) for their conference opener vs. #1 Kirkwood. Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
