Tritons Fall in Road Matchup With #1 Kirkwood
In what's always a tough road trip, the Triton Women fell 90-48 to top-ranked Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids, IA on Wednesday (12/4) night.
A slow start saw the Tritons trailing 49-16 at half after turning the ball over 22 times. "Tonight's game really came down to turnovers. We can't make excuses for it and we have to reduce them." said Triton Head Coach, Sabah Dickerson. "It's hard for us to get any sort of offensive rhythm when we spend a large portion of the game playing from behind. That's not the identity of our program."
Ashlin Jacobsen continues to lead the Tritons and scored 19 points in the loss. Lainey Maehl added 10 points and five rebounds. Ruby Stuckemeyer pulled down six rebounds.
"Ashlin has been playing really well and it's been great to see her stepping up and shooting with confidence." said Dickerson. "Lainey found some good offensive shots and was working hard for us to limit post touches. Ruby has been steadily improving. Both have tough jobs of battling inside but they do the hard work for us."
Putting this game behind them, the Tritons continue looking forward. "Our Region is very strong, very competitive, and you have to come ready to play every single day." said Dickerson. "We have to focus quickly now on Ellsworth. They're playing very well right now and defending Hodges Fieldhouse is of utmost importance to us."
The Tritons host Ellsworth on Saturday (12/7) at Hodges Fieldhouse. Tip is set for 1:00 PM
Coach's Key Moment: Amaya Terrell picking up another charge for us. She's our smallest player and to see her put her body on the line for us brings so much energy for the others.
Coach's Key Statistic: 87.5% FT Percentage - going 7-8 from the charity stripe.
