A tough first half shooting the ball (3-34) was too much for the Triton Women to overcome today (12/7) in a 41-87 loss to Ellsworth inside Hodges Fieldhouse. The Tritons scored 34 of their 41 points in the second half and would finish 14-62 (22.6%) from the field.
The Tritons have typically played well against Ellsworth and Triton Head Coach, Sabah Dickerson, gave Ellsworth credit for their effort. "You could see how much the Panthers wanted this victory." said Dickerson. "They jumped on us from the opening tip and their sophomores got a rare win in Hodges Fieldhouse. Credit their work ethic and focus."
Nine Tritons found the scoring column with Sharon Greek and Amaya Terrell each scoring nine points to lead the Tritons. Kiara Baptiste scored six points to go with seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Lainey Maehl had seven points and pulled down four rebounds.
"Our region feels very different this season. The usual teams that have been in the top half of the league have struggled early and some of the teams who have been inconsistent in recent years are steadily rising in stock." said Dickerson. "Iowa Central has had Ellsworth's number over the past six years. Today's loss is a tough one to swallow."
The Tritons are back in action on Wednesday (12/11) as they travel to Marshalltown for a 5:30 PM tip with the Tigers.
